Prints with real flowers
After every wedding heaps of flowers from the rites, rituals and bouquets are left behind. Instead of discarding them, make your special day more memorable by imprinting wispy Chanderi or silk fabric with the flowers. Mulya, a micro-enterprise in Dehradun, will do it for you.
Founded in 2020 by Alisha Maindoliya, a graduate from the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Mulya creates beautiful fabrics by hand dyeing with flower petals. You can buy printed flower fabric in silk, and Chanderi or cotton silk in lovely colours. Also available are ready-to-wear garments including sarees, dresses, dupattas, jackets and kurta-pyjama sets. A bespoke outfit can be requested.
Mulya’s team consists entirely of women. They forage for plants, leaves and flowers from the hills of Uttarakhand, taking care not to pluck live flowers. Only natural fabrics are used. Leaves and flowers are layered so that pretty designs are created. Heat, moisture and pressure are used to emboss flower patterns on cloth.
“We are committed to producing eco-friendly and sustainable fabrics that generate zero water pollution by using only the purest, biodegradable materials like flowers, leaves, and plant-based dyes. We ensure that our garments are as kind to Earth as they are beautiful,” says Maindoliya.
